#27
a watercolor by JMW Turner, a quote I keep thinking about, & MUSIC
Welcome to the table.
A painting worth viewing:
A poem worth pondering:
The Agony by George Herbert
Philosophers have measur'd the mountains,
Fathom'd the depths of the seas, of states, and kings,
Walk'd with a staffe to heav'n, and traced fountains:
But there are two vast, spacious things,
The which to measure it doth more behove:
Yet few there are that found them; Sinne and Love.
Who would know Sinne, let him repair
Unto mount Olivet; there shall he see
A man so wrung with pains, that all his hair,
His skinne, his garments bloudie be.
Sinne is that presse and vice, which forceth pain
To hunt his cruell food through ev'ry vein.
Who knows not Love, let him assay,
And taste that juice, which on the crosse a pike
Did set again abroach; then let him say
If ever he did taste the like.
Love in that liquor sweet and most divine,
Which my God feels as bloud; but I, as wine. For more great poetry 😉:
Music worth listening to (on shuffle):
A quote worth noting:
“Yet God’s working through the Holy Spirit and the indwelling Christ to speak to us is not to keep us constantly under His dictation. Too much intrusion on a seed that has been planted, as on the life of a plant or a child, simply makes normal, healthy growth impossible.”
- Dallas Willard, Hearing God
Odds & ends:
Books: I just finished Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel. Dystopian. Mysterious. Stupendous! 5/5 stars.
Currently reading

I think I’m about to start reading Red Rising by Pierce Brown
Wanna-be-chef: I have no chef tips this time around. In a bit of a creative slump here.
That’s all for now!
All my best,
Alexandra

Alexandra, I absolutely love this poem by George Herbert. I have been deliberating over the past few months which is my favorite, if that’s even possible, but recently landed on this very one. I actually just wrote a poem inspired by the last two lines about Jesus’ first miracle at Cana :)
